Sometimes when you look at a painting, when you get so encaptured by its point of view or enraged by its simplistic abstract ways you look for the signed name on the bottom corner of the canvas. All that you may know about that name is that they painted that picture, the emotions they brought out in you- and thats it. I mean, okay, yeah of course you can read the artist
biography and read the very selectively written description about themselves..but who are they? People spend thousands of dollars on art pieces, do you think that they would choose to support an artist who may be hitting the acid once in awhile? And of course there are tons of famous pieces of work out there that have been commissioned or done by people on drugs. heck, some of the greatest discoveries in science have been made in delusions and non consciousness. What im trying to say is that person, that person whos artwork that you chose to bring into your house could have been anyone. A bible thumper, a rapist, a soup kitchen volunteer, a coke head, anyone. Isn't that strange? I mean when I paint, especially recently, it takes me away from the world. I never want my roomates to come home and need to use the living room that I hogged up with my art supplies. I never want the brush strokes to end somedays. Because somedays the reality of life is not as joyful as painting is. I mean, im only 21, theres ups and downs in life and there are going to be lots more to come, I guess im just thankful that I have something that allows me to get away. I dont think everyone can say that. haha the whole point of this post - before i got side tracked-was to put out a better understanding of person that is behind the name that I sign my canvases with. And no, this isn't my weird way of telling you that im a bible thumper, rapist or coke head haha.
I love going to galleries and again i find it interesting how someone can go to a gallery, purchase a painting for $11,000, and not know anything about the person who painted it. I've always wished that their bio's be placed next to their pieces because I always want to know. So enough of being a hypocrite, here's a little about me, the person behind the signature. - coming to a blogpost near you aka the next post :) happy p90x'ing to meee
